Two Trains LEave Different Cities....

We used the classic "Traveling Trains" problem to learn Systems of Equations.

In a cross curricular lesson of Science and Algebra, students created balloon powered cars and then calculated it's speed or "slope".  We then paired up the cars and the students had to use the equations they created for their car to calculate the exact point when the two cars would pass each other or collide (intersection point).  In their Science class, the students focused on the laws of energy and motion.  Enjoy.

I like how its relates to learning, but at the same time its fun.How did they make the cart move that was attached to the balloon?

The balloons were attached to straws and the force of the wind exiting the balloon through the straw pushed the car forward!

I think giving us a video to help with hard homework is a good idea. I'm looking forward to the videos.

It is cool that instead of giving us written work we can watch the video to help us understand the lesson that we did that day more clearly
