Yes, very often you will use more than one of your solving skills.

Inverse Operation
Combine Like Terms
Distributive Property

It is up to you to know which one to use next to solve for the variable.

So does this also apply on different equation and what I meant is things like quadratic or a exponential

Good question! Yes, this can apply to other types of functions. When we substitute one variables value, it creates a single equation with a single variable and so we can solve it.
