I still don't know how you put a smiley face on the name Tapasya.

Are there any slope values that you think would be hard to graph? Any slopes that are confusing?

I don't think there can be any slope which CAN'T be graphed. However, decimals and fractions are harder to graph, but that doesn't mean that it is impossible.

A decimal slope would be hard to graph. However, here's a tip. If the slope contains a decimal that can be easily converted into a fraction, you can use that rise and run. For example a slope of 0.8 can be converted into 4/5. This would be a rise of 4 and a run of 5. Much easier than trying to count up by 0.8 on a graph.

Mr. Bigsby I have a question; why is the run and rise called that( who named them).

I am not sure who coined the term "Rise over Run" but it is a statement of how the slope affects a line. Each plot on a line with a slope of 3/4 will rise 3 then run 4. It "rises" up the Y-axis and then "runs" along the X-axis.

Algebra dates way back but Rene Descartes created the slope formula in 1596.

hi and what would be
y=/f(x)=(infinity sign)x+b

I know it would never be striate but what would (b) in the equation do?
I like math!!!!!!!!!
if the equation was
y=/f(x)=mx+b
(b = (infinite))
I don't know but (m) does nothing
This is my super quadratic equation
f(x)=(m/|m|*x^p)/|n|+b
m flips the graph (if(m)>0)m = 1)(if(m)<0)m=-1)
n controls width
b is y intercept
p is power
So um yah i love math
y=|_frac_{{m};{|abs{m}}}|_frac_{{x^{p}};{|abs{n}}}+b

Well infinity isn't really a number we can use for slope. The closest thing would be an undefined slope like 2/0. Any slope with a "run" of zero would just go straight up, but then it fails the vertical line test and is no longer a function.

The "b" in the equation always shows where the line crosses the y-axis. Again, a straight up and down line might not cross the y-axis but it is also not a function.

Cool quadratic equation. We will get to that, and learn a quadratic dance too :)
