PRIDE Team Building - Support frame

Students were tasked to support a tower of heavy math books two inches high with only two sheets of paper and a small strip of tape.

The students tried a few methods and discovered the highly effective cylinder supports.   While 12 inches was the official record, some creative students (cheaters) built the masterpiece below.

Teamwork and brainstorming are really vital when it comes to project like this. If I were a student, and I was asked to do this alone, I would probably have a hard time strategizing and coming up with an idea. But I have to admit, I was amazed by the students who successfully supported a tower of heavy math books with only two sheets of paper and a small strip of tape. It seems really impossible to achieve as I read the task. On the contrary, the last picture is really funny, but at least, the students gave their best effort.
